FAQs on dietary supplements?
A dietary supplement as defined by the ‘Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act ‘or DSHEA, is any product that contains one or more dietary ingredients such as a vitamin, mineral, herb or other botanical, amino acid or other ingredient used to supplement the diet.
Dietary supplements complement nutritional intake and promote better health. The majority of adults in the United States take one or more dietary supplements either every day or occasionally. The growing number of consumers taking dietary supplements indicates that people can and do live healthier lives by supplementing their diets.
Many Americans today trust dietary supplements and use them as a way to complement inadequate diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many scientific studies published in journals such as the ‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’, ‘TheJournal of the American Medical Association’ and on-going studies at some of the leading research institutes substantiate the fact that dietary supplements have an enviable safety record when compared to other commonly consumed products.
Yes. Dietary supplements are regulated by the ‘FDA’ but not with regulations similar to those of prescription medication or over-the-counter drugs. Because dietary supplements are considered food and not drugs, the FDA has the power to ensure that products on the market are both safe and accurately labeled. Before a product can be sold, a manufacturer must first notify the FDA of all intended label claims and ensure that they can be substantiated.
The following are some of the links where you could find more information on dietary supplements; Nutrient Recommendations: Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) and Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), Dietary supplement warnings and safety information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established good manufacturing practices (GMPs) for dietary supplements to help ensure their identity, purity, strength, and composition. These GMPs are designed to prevent the inclusion of the wrong ingredient, the addition of too much or too little of an ingredient, the possibility of contamination, and the improper packaging and labeling of a product. The FDA periodically inspects facilities that manufacture dietary supplements.
Several independent organizations also offer quality testing and allow products that pass these tests to display their seals of approval. These seals of approval provide assurance that the product was properly manufactured, contains the ingredients listed on the label, and does not contain harmful levels of contaminants. Organizations that offer this quality testing include NSFInternational and ConsumerLab.com
Known as The Most Trusted Name in Food SafetyTM, NSF International is a global independent organization that writes standards and protocols, and tests and certifies products for the food, water and consumer goods industries to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment. NSF as a ‘Public Health and Safety Organization’ works with supplement manufacturers to evaluate and test their products and to help ensure their quality and safety. NSF certification ensures that dietary supplements do not contain unacceptable levels of contaminants. NSF has developed the only American National Standard for dietary supplements (NSF/ANSI).
Yes! With our commitment to continued safety and quality we are NSF Registered / Certified. For more information follow the link: http://info.nsf.org/Certified/Dietary/
All products labeled as a dietary supplement carry a Supplement Facts faqpanel (Label) that lists the contents, amount of active ingredients per serving, and other added ingredients (like fillers, binders, and flavoring agents).
The manufacturer suggests the serving size and it is recommended to follow the directions as stated on the product label. However, your health care provider may also decide the amount that is more appropriate for you.
Standardized" means that manufacturers ensure every batch of their products is produced in a consistent way, with the same ingredients and same concentration of ingredients. It is usually a term that refers to extracts from plants (herbs) which contain a specific percentage of active ingredient(s).
The acronym ‘DV’ on a supplement label stands for Daily Value. This represents how much of a nutrient the supplement provides in regards to a total daily diet.
FAQs on contract manufacturing?
Contract manufacturing is outsourcing of the manufacturing process of a product to a third-party.
Contract manufacturing lets you access specialized manufacturing facilities that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to access. A qualified ‘contract manufacturer’ or ‘supplement partner’ has specific expertise acquired through years of developing, manufacturing and scaling a variety of dietary supplements. That experience can help you avoid or quickly solve challenges that would otherwise increase costs and affect time to market. A contract manufacturing partner is also a great way to ensure quality.
Quality and reliability are important factors in contract manufacturing. When you turn over the manufacturing of your dietary supplement to a contract manufacturer you need to be sure that it lands in trusted hands. A trusted supplement partner is one whose expertise will allow them to help you accelerate and improve production and also help you navigate regulatory considerations.

FAQ on bulk herbs
We only source our herbs from their native lands from around the world, where they are cultivated best and have been used for thousands of years. The majority of known herbs are native to the Indian subcontinent.
We travel to farms and work with small farmers and producers around to ensure that every ingredient/herb we source meets the highest standards of organic, plant-based, and sustainable farming practices. Over the years we have developed a great network of cultivators of these raw herbs and have successfully identified the best sources. What we offer is quality raw herbs, free from adulterants.
At Sandhus we rely on rigorous screening and auditing of producers and suppliers, followed by extensive identity and safety testing of the raw herbs to our own strict specifications. From the moment our herbs are harvested to the time they arrive on our docks, we monitor and log each step to fulfil our promise of quality to our customers. We routinely test for purity, heavy metals, pesticides, and other possible adulterants. Our herbs / ingredients, have been thoroughly monitored for quality and safety, and we don’t compromise on either.
We are an ‘Organic Processed Product Registered Facility’ and strictly adopt ‘USDA’ Organic Certification Standards. Our products are Organic whenever possible and if a product is not organic, it is cultivated without chemicals, or wild harvested.
Herbs generally don’t spoil but tend to lose their potency over time. How we store them plays a large role in how long they retain their potency. If stored in airtight containers and kept in a cool, dark, dry place, whole herbs can last up to 3-4 years and ground herbs can last 1-2 years.
