Gymnema (Gymnema Sylvestre)
Gymnema (Gymnema Sylvestre) is also known as Gurmar, which means “destroyer of sugar.” Gymnema is a woody plant that grows in the tropical forests of Central and Southern India. The leaves of the Gymnema plant have been used in Indian herbal medicine for centuries to regulate the body's metabolism of glucose (blood sugar). Also, Gymnemic acids, the active constituents in Gymnema, mimic glucose molecules and numb receptor sites on the tongue. In this way, Gymnema helps to control cravings for sugar.
